Fertilizer and research
So here is how I used fertiliser and research to get aheadof the game.
Fertiliser is the most important thing to build up, especially if funds of Gb are short.
You can get the first few levels for relatively small amounts. It gets expensive later on, but it's worth pushing towards the maximum of 20% as this works across all plants.
Fertilizer also works every 24 hours, so if you are growing a tree that takles several days to grow you can reduce the time every day.
Research, however, only reduces the initial growth time.
Once you have maxed out your fertilizer it is also worth starting to build up your research. This takes a percentage off the initial growing time of each plant. It is therefore worth waiting until you can apply it to plants with a long growing time.
I would suggest waiting for trees that have a growing time of 10 days (240 hours) or more.
Personally I saved mine for Walnuts, Plums and Olives.
You can build up a few levels with not too many Gb, but it does get very expensive later on.
Fertilizer works on top of research, so it applies the watering percentage to the reduced initial growing time.
base watering End Day1 watering End Day 2 watering End Day 3 watering End Day 4 watering
Walnuts 245 196 172 137.6 113.6 90.88 66.88 53.504 29.504 23.6032
EXAMPLE
I have reduced Walnuts to approximately 245 hours base growing time with level 27 research
I plant them and water them (at 20%) - this reduces the time to 196 hours
A day later (at 172 hours) I water again - they go down to 138 hours
A day later (at 114 hours) watering takes them down to 90 hours
A day later (at 66 hours) watering takes them down to 53 hours
A day later (at 29 hours) watering takes them down to 24 hours
so after five days I harvest a plant that should take 14 days with no fertiliser or research.
I get the points that I would have got for the 14 days growth time - thus increasing the points I can get each week and pushing ahead on the leader board.
Hope that helps some fellow guild members.

Fertilizer and research
Mitz it is great how you detailed your explanation, I'm sure it will be very helpful for everybody. More so to the ones among us which are a long way down in the line.

Thanks for your care.

Fertilizer and research
Julian, if you read again Mitzi post you see:
"You can get the first few levels for relatively small amounts. It gets expensive later on, but it's worth pushing towards the maximum of 20% as this works across all plants."
So each time you upgrade fertilzer it translates in reduced growing time everytime you water whatever plants,
It's the Research that you can only chhose 3 plants and naturally Mitzi chose the ones taking longer to grow...
Best
